Army Captain killed in J&K encounter

Srinagar, Feb 21 (IBNS) A Army captain of 10 Para unit was killed in a fresh firing at Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) building where an encounter is underway since Saturday, police said on Sunday.

After attacking the CRPF vehicle, militants entered into EDI building and holed up their positions and started heavy firing from the building on the security forces.

“At least 120 staffers and students were present in the building. We safely evacuated them but unfortunately one of the civilians Abdul Gani received a bullet in abdomen and hip, later he was Succumbs to his injuries in Srinagar Hospital,” said a police official.

Another police official said that it may take some time to neutralize the guerrillas.

“It is an 8-storey building and there are more than more than fifty rooms. We have been finding ways and means to neutralize these guerrillas which are believed to be two in number,” he said.

The encounter is still continuing even after over 14 hours of gunfight and the entire area has been cordoned off.
