Udhampur , Apr 13 (IBNS) On the occasion of Siachen Day, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Siachen War Memorial at Base Camp to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the frozen frontier.

The chief guest of the event, Commander Siachen Brigade felicitated the Gallantry Award Winners, Ex-servicemen (ESM) and Veer Naris.

The wreath laying ceremony was attended by Govt and Civil officials, locals of Nubra Valley and Shyok Valley.

An Ex-Serviceman (ESM) rally was also organised at  Base Camp for ESM of Nubra Axis.

A large gathering of Govt officials, village headmen, civilians also immersed alongside the ESM and men in uniform in celebrating the momentous and landmark day for the people of Nubra. A cultural programme was presented by local troupe.

The celebration of Siachen Day on Apr  13 is a very important annual event for the troops deployed on the frozen frontier of Siachen Glacier as on 13 Apr 1984 “OP MEGHDOOT” was launched by the Indian Army with an aim to deny Pakistani control of the Saltoro Ridge in the Siachen Glacier.

Since that day, the brave soldiers of Indian Army have been continuously guarding these frozen heights with utmost dedication, even making supreme sacrifice for the ‘Motherland’.
