Arvind Kejriwal got arrested due to his deeds: Anna Hazare

New Delhi/IBNS: In his first reaction to Arvind Kejriwal's arrest, social activist Anna Hazare Friday said he told the Delhi CM to stay away from liquor but "he made the policy for more money".

While several opposition leaders have come out in support of Kejriwal, Anna Hazare has said that the Aam Aadmi Party supremo shouldn't have made the liquor policy.

"I am very saddened that a man like Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me and had raised his voice against liquor, is preparing liquor policy today," he said.

"But what can be done? He got arrested due to his deeds. Had he not done anything, there was no question of his being arrested. Whatever happens now should happen according to the law," the activist said.

Anna Hazare was the face of the anti-corruption movement in 2011, from which the AAP emerged.

At the time, while choosing to stay out of electoral politics, he gave his "blessings" to AAP.

But he has since criticised the party on several issues.

However, Kejriwal and his party have avoided direct counters.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, arrested over alleged excise policy scam, has been remanded to the 7-day custody of the Enforcement Directorate till March 28.

The order was passed late Friday by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court, hours after the Delhi Chief Minister withdrew a Supreme Court plea challenging his arrest in the alleged liquor policy scam case.

In Friday's hearing, the agency called Arvind Kejriwal the "kingpin" and "key conspirator" in the alleged scam.
