Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma dedicates Supermarket-GS Road flyover in Guwahati

The flyover constructed under SOPD, 2019-20 with a financial outlay of Rs. 127.20 crore, bearing a total length of 1205 metre, has been completed in a record 22 months instead of the targeted 36 months.

With the inauguration, the flyover will considerably reduce traffic congestion at Supermarket by diverting traffic from Ganeshguri to Last Gate through the flyover. It will also ensure hassle-free traffic movement from Khanapara to Ganeshguri and facilitate smooth traffic from Last Gate to Ganeshguri.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarma said that a capital city always signifies the glory of an entire state. Completion of the Supermarket flyover in a record time, testifies the rate of development which is sweeping the entire state.

Stating that Guwahati being the gateway to ASEAN countries, Dr. Sarma said that infrastructural development of the city augurs well for the development of the entire state. He thanked the PWD engineers and paid his tributes to late Dilip Das, the former Chief Engineer of PWD who took the lead in giving this flyover a concrete shape.

Giving a snapshot of different infrastructure projects in the state and their level of implementation, the Chief Minister said that it has been the commitment of the new dispensation in Assam to adhere to timely completion of the projects to avoid cost overrun and giving the people a taste of development works.

He also said that the under-construction Guwahati- North Guwahati bridge over the Brahmaputra will be inaugurated by December 2023. AIIMS at Changsari will be inaugurated this financial year. Two more under construction flyovers at Sarab bhati and Maligaon will also be completed within 2023.

He also informed that his government will construct one more flyover to serve R.G. Baruah Road-Geetanagar tri-junction.

Moreover, flyovers at Basistha Chariali and Gorchuk will be built. Another flyover from Guwahati Club to Bamunimaidan area will also be built and DPR is in the advanced stage of completion.

Dr. Sarma also said that his government is also examining construction of a six-lane ring road connecting Baihata-Sipajhar, Kuruwa-Narengi to connect it to the national highway. The DPR for the project is underway and the work will be taken up under Bharat Mala Project.

He also said that in the next five year of this present government besides the existing Saraighat Bridge, there will be three more bridges connecting Narengi-Kuruwa, the under-constructionGuwahati- North Guwahati bridge and Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge to address the connectivity bottleneck of the people living along the South and North Bank of the river Brahmaputra.

Moreover, the drinking water project of Guwahati is nearing completion. The government is also working sincerely for the Brahmaputra riverfront beautification project besides creating new gardens in Hengrabari, Fancy Bazar and Maligaon areas.

An integrated sports complex will be built at the now defunct Chandrapur Thermal Power project area in line with Sarusajai Sports Complex.

Under the ease of governance initiative, the State government is adequately taking the help of digital solutions to ensure the people enjoy fruits of governance in the areas like, driving license, trade license, employment registration, land related services etc. He also said that under Mission Sadbhavana all files pending in the Secretariat before May 10, 2021 will be disposed of.

Moreover, under Mission Basundhara all land related issues will be resolved before 10th May when the present BJP led government in the state completes its one year in the second term.

Wishing the people of the state on Diwali, Dr. Sarma elicited cooperation from all sections of the state for the government to continue its unrelenting endeavour of taking the development of the state altogether to a new height.
