Assam CM Sonowal presents appointment letter to ace athlete Hima Das as DSP in Assam Police

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented appointment letter to ace athlete Hima Das in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam Police under the Integrated Sports Policy of the Assam government in a programme held at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati on Friday.

Chief Minister Sonowal also distributed appointment letters to 597 newly recruited sub-inspectors in Assam Police in the same function.

Earlier Chief Minister Sonowal unveiled a life size statue of Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi which was installed by Assam Sports Journalists Welfare Association under the aegis of the freedom fighter’s family at Sarusajai Sports Complex.

Assam Chief Minister Sonowal paid respectful tribute to Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi and said that the great freedom fighter set high moral standard in society through his selfless service to the nation.

The Assam Chief Minister further said that though appointment in government service is a regular process, certain recruitments exemplify ethical values and inspire the society and the people in the administration to follow the path of righteousness.

He termed the latest recruitment of sub-inspectors in Assam Police as an example of truthfulness, sincerity and coordinated efforts which testified the capabilities of the police force to fight against challenges setting new benchmark for transparency.

He also congratulated the newly recruited sub-inspectors and their parents on the occasion. Saying that the uniform of a police personnel carries with it lots of responsibility, duty and sense of integrity, the Chief Minister urged the newly appointed sub-inspectors to contribute in giving a new momentum to the police force.

Further the Chief Minister said that the State government adopted an integrated Sports Policy to make sports as a promising career for the young generation. That is why the Assam government appointed sprinter Hima Das as DSP in Assam Police who made the state proud with her achievements in national and international sports, he said.

The Chief Minister also observed that appointment of Hima Das would inspire the youth to devote more sincerely in the field of sports.

Chief Minister Sonowal also urged the new sub-inspectors to maintain the dignity of the police force and perform their duties without any bias to any section of the society.

He asked them to work with integrity to protect the life and properties of people without any fear and favour. He also said that the newly appointed sub-inspectors must take exemplary steps against corruption and serve the society with utmost dedication and commitment.

The Assam Chief Minister also thanked the authorities of Dibrugarh University and the Assam Police led by the DGP for successfully conducting the recruitment. He said that the Assam government has been working to make Assam free from corruption, insurgency, pollution and illegal migration.

To realize these avowed goals, there is a need for active cooperation of the public; he said adding that social reform is possible only through united efforts of all sections of the society.

Athlete Hima Das also shared her thoughts on the occasion on being appointed as DSP in Assam Police.

While Member Secretary of SLAC for Sports and Youth Welfare Lakhya Konwar delivered the welcome speech, Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, ADGP Dr. LR Bishnoi also spoke on the occasion.

Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami, Principal Secretary of Home & Political Department Neeraj Verma, ADGP (L&O) GP Singh, ADGP (Administration) Harmeet Singh, Commissioner & Secretary of Sports Moloy Bora, several senior government officials, sportspersons and other dignitaries were present among others in the programme.
