Assam government to announce another cash award for Indian sprinter Hima Das

Guwahati, Jul 22 (IBNS): Young Indian sprinter Hima Das has created a new history by winning her 5th gold medal within just 19 days recording her season-best 52.09 seconds in 400m race.

The 19-year-old Ace Indian sprinter popularly known as “Dhing Express” had clocked 23.65 seconds on her way to gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2.

Hima won her second 200m gold at the Kutno Athletics Meet, also in Poland on July 7 and had clocked 23.97 seconds.

On July 13, she won her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic with a time of 23.43.

On July 17, she won the 200m race in the Tabor Athletics Meet.

Applauding for her victorious performance, the Twitter users have congratulated her.

From President of India to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijuju, Sachin Tendulkar and many others have congratulated her.

Hima’s coach Nipon Das said that "We are proud of her and it is an unbelievable performance as she won five gold medals in five tournaments within only 19 days."

“Hima showed very good performance. She won five gold medals within 19 days. She won four gold medals in 200m and one in 400m. It is very good for us, the people of Assam and the nation. The centre and Assam government have supported her. After her injuries in April, she participated the first time in 400m race. I hope she will perform better in the next championship,” Nipon Das said.

On the other hand, Hima’s father Ranjit Das has also congratulated her and said that the entire nation is now proud of her.

“The President of India and Prime Minister have congratulated her after she won five gold medals in a season. Sachin Tendulkar has also congratulated her. It is a very proud moment for us. We are very happy. The people of India have given their blessings to Hima. She promised that she will make the nation happy by doing better performance in Olympic games,” Ranjit Das said.

On the other hand, Lakhya Konwar, Member Secretary of State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare, Assam government said that the Assam government will announce another cash award for Hima Das after her recent outstanding performance.

“It’s really unbelievable performance by an Indian woman athlete. Five consecutive gold medals in five international events, it’s really unbelievable and splendid performance by an Indian athlete. So, we really proud of her and we are extending our government’s gratitude towards her. We think, she will qualify her next tournament. She will qualify for Doha World Championship by performing her best in 400m. She is the only present athlete in the world as she is improving day by day,” Lakhya Konwar said.
