Assam government to set up country’s first international level Skill University, Multi-Modal Logistics Hub

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam government is all set to set up country’s first international level Skill University at the cost of Rs 950 crore. 

Assam Trade and Commerce minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the Skill University will be set up at Mangaldoi in Assam’s Darrang district and the Asian Development Bank will fund for it.

“We have proposed one Skill University to be set up at Mangaldoi and this will be the first International Skill University in the country. We have already submitted our proposal and the Ministry of External Affairs, NITI, Home ministry and finance department have also approved it. Now the proposal has sent to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and a team of ADB will visit Assam in January next. After that, we will lay the foundation of the university and work will start,” Chandra Mohan Patowary said.

The Assam minister also said the state government has signed a MoU with Singapore because in the skill development sector Singapore is the best in the world and resource persons from Singapore came in Assam and trained up our trainers.

“The university will be International standard and the youths who will pass out from it will get global space. The cost for it is expected around Rs 950 crore and it will be funded by the Asian Development Bank,” the minister said.

The Assam Trade minister further said one International Multi-Modal Logistics Hub will be set up at Jogighopa at the cost of Rs 900 crore.

“After settling the land issues, I hope the works will start soon. That hub will provide connectivity to the traders to connect South-East Asian countries and as well it will connect to the ocean also,” Chandra Mohan Patowary said.

The Assam minister further said that after Advantage Assam the state government has received Rs 65,000 crore investments so far.

“Around Rs 79,000 crore investments MoU were signed during the Advantage Assam,” Patowary said.
