Assam govt starts Gunotsav covering 8 districts in first phase
The four-day long Gunotsav programme, which started from April 4, will cover over 9 lakh students of 12320 primary schools in Barpeta, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Morigaon and West Karbi Anglong districts.
Assam Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, quality education is a major concern of the state government and in order to achieve the best quality for the future generation of the country, the state government has implemented Gunotsav which will not only help to upgrade the quality of education but also would help children to develop and grow in school environments that are supportive.
“There are many objectives of the Gunotsav and these are to assess each child as mandated under CCE to identify learning gaps, to ensure learning enhancement and achievement of learning outcomes by all children at primary level, to assess the performance of schools on areas likes curricular, co-curricular, availability and utilization of infrastructure, community participation, to indicate learning gaps and to design effective stratagies to meet up these gaps,” the Assam minister said.
On Wednesday, a total of 4319 government officials including Assam Chief Secretary and DGP visited 4320 primary schools of the eight districts to collect assessments of scholastic, co-scholastic, availability and utilization of school infrastructure and oter facilities.
“59 IAS, 25 IPS, 7 IFS, 191 ACS, 17 AFS, 42 APS officials, 1763 college teachers, 112 DIET teachers and 2068 other government officials had visited the schools,” the Assam Education minister said.
Under the programme, 4165 schools to be covered on April 6 and 3835 schools on April 7.
“It is a biggest quality exercise in Assam after Gujarat,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam minister said that, apart from the government officials, 10 legislators also visited the schools.
Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the state government has planned to start Gunotsav in high school and higher secondary schools in the state this year.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted Assam government for starting Gunotsav programme in the state.
