“When troops reached the area, the hidden militants fired upon security personnel and bullets were exchanged. During the gun fight a militant killed on spot,” Dr Bisnoi said.

Other militants had managed to escape from the area with the help of darkness.

The slain militant was identified as BhaigoBoro and security personnel recovered one AK-56 rifle with magazine, 18 rounds fired cases, 32 rounds live ammunition, two hand grenades.

“The militant was a 38th batch trained cadre of NDFB(S) and was a self styledSection Commander. He was a close associate of top NDFB(S) leaders and was involved in the  December 23, 2014 massacre at Pakhriguri in Kokrajhar, as well as various cases of kidnappings,” the top police official said.
