Assam: Jiribam police seized illegal liquor worth Rs 9.60 lakh

Guwahati/IBNS: The Manipur police seized huge quantity of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 9.60 lakh and truck in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Thursday evening, officials said on Friday.

Jiribam district Superintendent of Police (SP) M Mubi Singh said that, as a part of continuous drive against illicit drugs and liquor, a team of Jiribam police conducted frisking and checking of a goods carrier trucks at Jiribam foreigners check post gate.

“During the checking, the police team found huge quantity illegal IMFL from a truck bearing registration number AS-25C-5344 which was coming from Assam side. The illegal liquor found concealed underneath of the onion, potato bags,” M Mubi Singh said.

The police team seized a total of 6156 bottles of whisky, rum, beer from the truck.

Police also seized the truck and arrested the driver identified as Khwairakpam Romesh Singh.

The value of the seized liquor is estimated of Rs 9.60 lakh.

The Jiribam district SP further said that the seized liquor was loaded at Nalapara area in Assam’s capital city Guwahati and trying to transport it to Imphal.

The seized articles were handed over to Excise department for further necessary proceedings.
