Assam Rifles organises Veteran Mela in Manipur
Imphal/IBNS: To honour the veterans of Assam Rifles and Indian Army of Tamenglong district, Manipur, a Veteran Mela was organised by 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of sector 22 Sect/ IGAR (East) on Monday.
The event was graced with the presence of Major General Ranjit Singh IGAR (East) who inaugurated the Mela.
About 50 Ex Servicemen alongwith their dependents attended the event.
A cultural event was organised for the veterans which refreshed their memories of serving in defence forces.
A story depicting the life of Rani Gaidinliu, the great freedom fighter of Tamenglong district who was conferred the Title “Rani” and addressed as “Daughter of the Hills” by First Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was also showcased to the audience in form of skit.
The efforts and sacrifice made by Rani Gadinliu for achieving independence and for social upliftment of the Zeliangrong community was deliberated upon in the skit.
Addressing the gathering IGAR(E) emphasised upon the importance of the role of veterans in improving the society.
He stated that Assam Rifles is committed to bring peace & harmony in the north east for which every possible assistance is being provided to local populace especially our veterans by Assam Rifles.
He acknowledged the significant contribution of veterans towards the nation building.
The event was largely intended to convey thanks to the veterans for their invaluable service and sacrifice made by them while guarding the borders of the nation.
