Atal Bhujal Yojana an important step towards providing water to all houses: PM Modi

New Delhi/IBNS: Launching Atal Bhujal Yojana on the 95th birth anniversary of his predecessor late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the scheme is an important step towards providing water to all houses.

"The issue of water was very crucial to Atal ji. It was very close to his heart. Atal Bhujal Yojana is an important step towards achieving the goal of providing water to all houses by 2024," the Prime Minister said at Vigyan Bhawan here.

He added, "The scheme has been dedicated to Atal ji. The tunnel which connects Himachal Pradesh with Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, Manali with Leh will now be known as Atal Tunnel."

Identifying with the problems common families face over water crisis, Modi said, "It is worrying as a country to have the water crisis. We have to make New India ready to tackle this crisis. So we are working at five levels."

The Prime Minister has also urged all villagers to create "Water Action Plan" and "Water Fund".

Modi on Wednesday morning paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Atal Samadhi Sthal in central Delhi.

He will also visit Lucknow to unveil a statue of the former Prime Minister, who was very close to Modi.
