Australian High Commission welcomes new AIC chairperson
The Australia-India Council was established in 1992 to build people-to-people and institutional links between Australia and India, and to encourage deeper relations and economic ties between the two countries.
"I congratulate Mr Jacob on his appointment, and I look forward to working with him to build even stronger links between Australia and India," Suckling said.
"The economic ties between Australia and India form the bedrock of our bilateral relationship, and Mr Jacob will be able to use his impressive network of business contacts in both countries to strengthen them even further." he said.
Suckling added that the AIC already has an impressive record of achievement of contribution to the relationship.
He said, "It has run several exceptional speaker exchange programs, which have sponsored visits by eminent academics, public servants, authors and economists from both countries."
"It has also helped to build strong networks between Australian and Indian businesses, and played an important role in strengthening links between our educational institutions and media organisations,” Suckling said.
He added, "It has also been a major supporter of the ground-breaking Australian cultural festival Oz Fest which held over 100 events in 18 cities across India. I’m sure the AIC will continue to go from strength to strength under Mr Jacob’s leadership."
