Bank account hacking case: Nigerian youth produced before court in Tripura

Ambassa(Tripura)/UNI: A Nigerian youth was produced before the court on Monday in the subdivision of Ambassa in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai in connection with a bank account hacking case.

According to sources, in 2019, a resident of Ambassa identified as Pabindra Riang lodged a complaint with local police after his account with State Bank of India was hacked.

Police registered a case under sections 420 and 120(B) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 66(D) of IT Act, 2000.

Cyber crime branch of Tripura Police referred the case to Delhi cyber crime branch. After investigation, Delhi Police trapped one Nigerian youth identified as Balara Mayentram. They brought him to Ambassa today and handed him over to the police here. Later, he was produced before the court.

Balara Mayentram was arrested earlier in a similar crime and was recently released on bail after after spending seven months in Tihar Jail.

An international gang is suspected to be behind the cases of hacking, police said.
