Guwahati, Jun 19 (IBNS): In a shocking incident just ahead of the Ambubachi Mela – a biggest Hindu religious event, a beheaded body of a woman was found nearby the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on Wednesday evening.

The body of an unidentified woman was found near the Banadurga Mandir located near the Kamakhya temple at the Nilachal hill.

According to the reports, some items used for performing puja have also been recovered from the body.

The incident has raised the question about the security arrangements ahead of the Ambubachi Mela.

Top officials of Assam police have rushed to the spot and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, the head of the body is still missing.

Police have suspected that it is a human sacrifice incident.

A top official of Guwahati city police said that someone has committed the crime due to superstition.

“Whoever has committed this crime, he conducted it willingly. He has committed this crime due to superstition if it has happened. We have started an investigation,” the police official said.

The four-day long Ambubachi Mela will be started from June 22 at Kamakhya temple.
