Bengal: Bomb attack in Kankinara kills one, injures several

Kolkata, Jun 11 (IBNS): One person was killed and several others were injured in a bomb attack which took place at Kankinara in North 24 Parnagas of West Bengal last night, media reports said.

Md. Mukhtar, some of his family members and others were sitting outside their houses in Baruipara when the attack took place. Mukhtar died on spot while others were injured.

Mukhtar's wife was also among those who were injured.

Kankinara is located in Bhatpara, which saw a widespread violence during the assembly by-elections in 2019.

The Bhatpara constituency had fallen vacant after sitting MLA Arjun Singh left the Trinamool Congress (TMC), joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested from Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat.

Eventually, Arjun defeated TMC's sitting MP Dinesh Trivedi.

The Bhatpara constituency witnessed a stiff contest between Arjun's son and BJP candidate Pawan Kumar Singh and TMC strongman Madan Mitra. The seat was won by Pawan.
