Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said her state government is fully committed to combating pneumonia and other common, yet often deadly, childhood diseases.

Taking to her Twitter handle, Banerjee said, " Today is World Pneumonia Day. Pneumonia is one of the leading infectious killers of children under the age of 5. "

" Our government in #Bangla is fully committed to combating pneumonia and other common, yet often deadly, childhood diseases," she added.

World Pneumonia Day provides an annual forum for the world to stand together and demand action in the fight against pneumonia.

More than 100 organizations representing the interests of children joined forces as the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia to hold the first World Pneumonia Day in 2009.
