Bengal Polls 2021: Mamata Banerjee to reach Nandigram today, nomination filing tomorrow

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will Tuesday reach Nandigram from where she will be fighting the upcoming state polls against her former lieutenant Suvendu Adhikari.

Banerjee will be holding a rally for her workers in Nandigram Tuesday.

Before leaving Kolkata, she will release her party Trinamool Congress' poll manifesto.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to file her nomination in Haldia at 3 pm Wednesday.

The Nandigram seat in this polls has gained a special attraction after Banerjee announced her candidature from the constituency, which is the bastion of Trinamool-turned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Adhikari.

While Banerjee has thrown a challenge to the BJP in Nandigram, Adhikari has pledged to defeat the feisty 66-year old political maverick by "half-a-lakh votes".

"Once I commit something, I do it. I will fight from Nandigram as I had said," the Trinamool chief had said while unveiling the candidate list.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Kolkata last Sunday for the Brigade rally, also referred to Nandigram during his speech.

"We have seen Didi riding a scooty (in protest against fuel price hike). She was about to fall from the scooty... We don't want anyone to get hurt but what could we do if her scooty falls in Nandigram," Modi taunted, leading stage-sharer Adhikari to burst into laughter.

Banerjee has already deputed two of her leaders, Purnendu Basu and Dola Sen, in Nandigram to oversee the party's campaign in Nandigram.

Adhikari, as per few media reports, will file his nomination Mar 12.
