Bengal polls: TMC's Anubrata Mondal escapes from ECI's surveillance
Birbhum/West Bengal/IBNS: A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) put Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal under strict surveillance, the ruling party strongman went out of the ECI's 'eyes', officials said on Wednesday.
Sources in the ECI said that Anubrata Mondal along with his convoy escaped from the surveillance of a local magistrate and CAPF personnel in the morning and he is still untraceable.
Local scribes told IBNS that Anubrata was seen moving from one corner to another in the district and interacting with people as well as with his party men.
"He visited Nanur, Lavpur and Sainthia and had words with locals from inside his vehicle. He did not come out of his SUV and changed his vehicle at Sainthia," a Birbhum-based journalist said.
Mondal is currently moving towards Mallarpur.
ECI officials said that the surveillance unit is currently looking for Anubrata Mondal.
EC has put Mondal under strict surveillance of executive magistrate and Central paramilitary force till 7 am. on Friday (Apr 30) when election in all ACs in Birbhum is scheduled to be held on Thursday (Apr 29).
