Bengal: Toofanganj OC injured in police-villagers fighting over cattle lifting in Cooch Behar
Toofanganj, May 10 (UNI) The officer-in-charge of Toofanganj police station Soumalya Aich was today injured during police-villagers clashes at Chatrampur village in Cooch Behar district over disputes of cattle lifting in which some police vans were vandalised and few journos covering
the event were thrashed.
The villagers have been fuming for many weeks over reports of often cattle lifting from households and from cow shades and the police authorities allegedly did not pay much heed towards the complaints.
But when a cattle lifting was today reported the villagers began to regroup at Chatrampur and when police came to restore the situation, fighting erupted between them as the villagers allegedly tried to set fire on a police vehicle.

and he sustained wounds.
Then police resorted to lathi charging when the villagers turned violent and tried to set up fire police vehicles after those vandalised.
Some media people also got thrashed in the impact before the reinforcement arrived and took the situation under control.
