Bhubaneswar hospital fire: PM Modi sanctions compensation for victims

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced ex-gratia relief for the victims of the fire accident in Bhubaneswar SUM Hospital in Odisha.

He sanctioned an ex-gratia relief of Rs.2 lakh each to the next of kin of the persons deceased and Rs.50,000 each to the persons, who got seriously injured in the fire accident.

The amounts were sanctioned from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

The massive fire at the hospital claimed 20 lives and left 100 others injured on Monday.

The hospital's medical superintendent and three others were arrested on Tuesday.

Three employees of the Bhubaneswar's SUM Hospital have also been suspended by the authorities.

Patients were evacuated and shifted to other hospitals in the city.
