Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav not to resign despite corruption charges, says RJD

Patna, Jul 10 (IBNS) : Rashtriya Janata Dal, the biggest constituent of Bihar's ruling coalition, today said Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav will not resign from his post after being accused in corruption by the Central Bureau of Investigation, media reports said.

The announcement came after RJD's legislature party its weight behind the  27-year-old younger son of party chief Lalu Prasad, who is also an accused.

The central agency had filed corruption cases against the father-son duo after a series of raids last week at Lalu Yadav's home and other properties.

According to reports, the RJD, at its legislature party meeting, made it clear that there was no question of Tejaswi Yadav to resign from the post of State’s Deputy Chief Minister.

The Hindu reported that all RJD MLAs, MPs and senior leaders were present in the meeting, which lasted for nearly two hours.

Finance Minister and RJD's senior leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui has been quoted as saying that with such "coercive" acts the RJD would emerge much stronger.

The opposition BJP had declared that did not  resign from his post, the party would launch a movement and let people know about the scam he was involved in.

“The CBI raid is all a ploy to destabilise the grand alliance government in Bihar…those who raises voice against BJP these days have to face such coercive acts by the central government…we’ll fight BJP and chase them away from the power”,  Siddiqui told journalists after legislative party meeting was over at the Yadavs’ residence.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is also the chief of Janata Dal (United), has maintained a silence since the CBI raids as he has not  made any comment either in favour or against Lalu Prasad and his son.

In an apparent bid to avoid questions, the Chief Minister has also cancelled his weekly meeting on Monday with public visitors, after which he usually interacts with reporters at his home. Instead, Nitish Kumar will likely make his first comments on the Yadavs' alleged scandal at a meeting of the party's core committee to be held on Tuesday,  NDTV says.

NDTV quoted its sources as saying that  that it is the Chief Minister's  prerogative to decide whether or not Tejashwi Yadav should be removed, an opinion that is allegedly shared by the Congress, the third participant in the coalition government.
