Bihar: Maoist killed in police encounter

Gaya, May 18 (UNI) A Maoist was killed in fierce gun battle between jawans of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)`s Cobra battalion and extremists in Latua forest under Latua police station area in Gaya district in the wee hours today.

Confirming the incident, Gaya police superintendent (operation) Arun Kumar Singh said that extremist of outlawed ultra left outfit was killed when jawans of CRPF` Cobra battalion returned fire after Maoists launched indiscriminate firing on the security personnel. He said Cobra jawans raided the hideout of extremists in Latua forest near Naugagarh village in bordering area of Gaya and Aurangabad districts on the basis of specific intelligence input.

Singh said other extremists made good their escape by taking advantage of the dense forest.

He said that a firearm was recovered from the deceased extremist, who was yet to be identified.

Search operation against extremists had been intensified with deployment of additional police personnel, he added.
