Bihar: Youth burns woman alive after exploiting her

Bettiah/UNI: A young man after exploiting a woman burnt her alive when she was on family way and was pressuring him to marry her at village Mahmadpur under Shikarpur police station area of Bettiah in West Champaran district today.

According to the police, the 19-year old girl sustained nearly 70 per cent burn injuries and was admitted at Bettiah Sadar hospital in critical condition. The accused namely Arman is a co-villager of the victim girl.

Meanwhile, Police Superintendent Nitasha Gudiya said here that the matter is related to love affair and the accused who put the girl on fire pouring kerosene oil on her had been arrested.

She said that the victim, in her statement stated that the accused assured her to marry and on this pretext came to her home in the morning of Tuesday and committed the crime.

Meanwhile, the victims’ brother said that Arman regularly visited his home and no one had doubt on his intention.

The civil surgeon (in charge) of Subdivisional hospital Narkatiyaganj Dr Shiv Kumar said that the victim girl sustained more than 70 per cent burn injuries and was being sent to Bettiah government medical college hospital for better treatment.

Meanwhile, a report from Banka said that body of a woman missing from Haha village since December 8, was recovered from Sadar police station area of the district.

Police Superintendent Arvind Gupta said here that the body was recovered from Gerua pond on a tip off. The victim was perhaps raped and then killed. The matter is being investigated.
