Patna/UNI: Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation`s co-chair Bill Gates called on chief minister Nitish Kumar here today and held discussions with an objective to carry forward health and nutrition agenda in the state.

Kumar met Gates at ‘Samvad’ and reiterated his government`s commitment to finding solutions for meeting health and growth targets.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, state health minister Mangal Pandey and senor officers were present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Kumar said, “We are very happy with the innovative efforts of Bill and Melinda Gates and assisting us in improving public health, bringing change in people`s behavior at the community level and making consistent growth in health, nutrition and sectors like agriculture. Bihar is eager to continue its partnership with Gates Foundation for further strengthening permanent systems in health, social welfare, agriculture, women empowerment, rural development and other departments”.

On the other hand, Gates said, “ In the last 20 years, very few places could match the progress made by Bihar in fight against poverty and diseases. The possibility of a baby celebrating his 5th birth day is more than twice than what it was two decades back and maternal mortality rate has declined significantly”.

He said, “Now it has to be ensured that all children keeping good health have access to quality education. My Foundation is committed to working with Bihar government for achieving goals set in various sectors”.
