London: Interest in the opulent Hanover Lodge estate has surged worldwide after Indian billionaire Ravi Ruia's recent acquisition of the property for a staggering 113 million pounds (Rs 1,200 cr) in one of the largest residential transactions in London, media reports said.

This historic mansion, designed by John Nash in 1827, covers an impressive 2,400 square meters and offers breathtaking views of Regent's Park from its location at 150 Park Road.

A Bloomberg report, however, said Ruia bought the property for INR. 1,189 crore ( USD 145 million). It said the London mansion is linked to Russian property investor Andrey Goncharenko.

Formerly the residence of the French ambassador to the UK, the Grade II-listed Hanover Lodge boasts luxurious amenities such as a gym, sauna, gallery, and accommodation for in-house staff.

It also features a splendid swimming pool that can be converted into a ballroom for grand gatherings.

Just two years ago, the mansion was owned by Goncharenko, the former deputy CEO of Gazprom Invest Yug, a subsidiary of the Russian state-run energy firm.

He acquired the property's lease in 2012 from Conservative Party peer Rajkumar Bagri for 120 million pounds.

A spokesperson for the Ruia family said that Hanover Lodge presented a lucrative investment opportunity, leading to its acquisition.

Ravi Ruia, along with his brother Shashi, co-founded India's Essar Group, a conglomerate with significant interests in energy, metals, technology, and retail.

Currently, the mansion is undergoing construction, and the Ruia family office considers it an attractive addition to their investment portfolio.

As the world eagerly awaits a glimpse of the lavish interiors, Hanover Lodge's allure continues to capture the attention of people globally.
