BJP ally Upendra Kushwaha quits NDA, says 'PM didn't fulfill promises'

| @indiablooms | Dec 10, 2018, at 02:44 pm

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IBNS): In a jolt to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its ally from Bihar, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), severed ties with the saffron party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday after party chief Upendra Kushwaha resigned from the Union Cabinet, media reports said.

The resignation of Kushwaha came months after he grew resentment with another ally, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United).

He had been sulking ever since the BJP and the JD(U) reached an agreement that the two parties would contest 17 seats each in Bihar, where the total number of constituencies is 40.

The RLSP was offered only two seats, one less than the number it had fought on and won in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Leaving the alliance, Kushwaha on Monday said: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn't fulfill the promises he made. He didn't give the special package which he had promised to Bihar. The condition of Bihar is still the same."

"I am committed to social justice," the Bihar leader said.

Kushwaha is likely to attend the key Opposition meet scheduled to be held on Monday.

The RLSP may join hands with the opposition, which includes Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress.
