Kolkata, Apr 14 (IBNS): Ahead of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) election, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rupa Ganguly was attacked at Gopalnagar in Kolkata during her election campaign on Tuesday.
The attack was allegedly carried out by the ruling Trinamool Congress Party in Bengal, which left her car driver injured as well.

"They beat up my driver, smashed the windscreen when I tried to speak for our candidate there," Ganguly said.

Alleging that the TMC attacked her, she said that if the ruling party is so confident about it's win in the KMC poll, then why is it resorting to violence.

She said, "If TMC is so confident of winning, then why resort to all these?"

"We had permission for the meeting till 530 pm, but still they tried to disrupt it," she said.

Ganguly said she was saved by the police.

"Police saved me, however. I think we have to change West Bengal. I am more determined to change this scenario," she said.

"They TMC people hurled abuses at me. When they tried to touch me I shouted back saying if you touch me I will break your hand," she added.

Some mediapersons were attacked too, including the team of ABP Ananda channel.

The channel alleged that their video cassette was snatched by TMC men.

Kolkata Municpal Corporation poll is scheduled to be held on Apr 18.
