Kolkata/IBNS: BJP's newly appointed national secretary from West Bengal, Anupam Hazra, who had threatened to hug Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee if he ever contracted Covid-19, tested positive for the contagious virus on Friday.

Sources in the party said that Anupam Hazra had mild symptoms and he was under home isolation-cum-treatment.

"We are taking advice from doctors, if they suggest hospitalization, Anupam Hazra will be admitted to hospital," a party source said.

TMC-MP-turned-BJP leader Anupam Hazra also confirmed his Covid test's result in his Facebook account.

Earlier on Sept 27 (Sunday), a day after he was appointed as a national secretary of BJP, Anupam Hazra said that he wanted to hug CM Mamata Banerjee if he ever tested positive for novel coronavirus to make her feel the situation of Covid-19 patients in the state.

Hazra made the controversial remarks during his media interaction at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district where he went to attend a party meeting.

Leaders of the TMC as well as CPI-M and Congress condemned his objectionable remarks while an FIR was registered against him at a Siliguri police station in North Bengal, based on a complaint filed by local TMC leadership.
