Indore, Jun 30 (IBNS): BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya's son, Akash Vijayvargiya on Sunday walked out of the jail after being granted bail for assaulting an Indore Municipal Corporation officer with a cricket bat.

He was garlanded by party workers as he walked out of the jail four days after being arrested.

He was granted bail by a special court in Bhopal on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters outside the jail, he told: "I am not guilty or embarrassed about what I did as it was in public interest... I will keep working for the betterment of the region and the public."

"I pray to god that I should not be given another opportunity to pick up the bat (I pray to god ki vo dobara ballebazi karne ka avsar na de)," he added.

The case triggered a controversy after he was caught on camera assaulting an Indore Municipal Corporation officer with a cricket bat.

The incident occurred at a time when a team of the civic body went to Ganji area in Indore to demolish a rickety building.

Akash was protesting with the locals against the corporation's move to demolish the building.

He went straight to the party office after his release and was once again garlanded by supporters there.

Outside his home, he was welcomed with a traditional aarti.

In fact police personnel who were on duty were also offered sweets by a supporter of Vijayvargiya.

Earlier,  Akash, who is himself a BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh, had defended his move by describing it as 'just the beginning'.

He was quoted as saying by Times now: "This is just the beginning, we will end this corruption  and goondaism. Aavedan (apply), nivedan (request) aur fir dana dan(thrashing), this is our line of action.”

"I got to know that some buildings are being demolished by some Congress leaders in connivance with the Municipal Corporation. I requested them to keep me in the loop if any work is being done in my area, but they did not take me seriously," he had added.
