New Delhi, Apr 9 (IBNS) :  BJP's chief ministerial candidate for Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa, will contest from Shikaripura assembly constituency as the party  released a list of 72 candidates on Sunday evening, media reports said.

The list, finalised by the BJP top braass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party President Amit Sha,  was announced by the  Central Election Committee.

According to reports, veteran  state leaders Jagadish Shettar and KS Eswarappa will contest from Hubli Dharwad Central and Shimoga Assembly seats, respectively, it said.

The meeting discussed the names of   probable candidates for rest of the seats in the 225-member state Assembly.  The names of remaining candidates are likely to be announced soon.

The BJP has been doggedly pursuing to recapture Karnataka after it lost power in the state in 2013.

Shikaripura in Shivamogga district is the constituency whiclh Yeddyurappa represented first in 2008 to lead the BJP to its maiden victory in south India and then for a brief period in 2013 as a nominee of Karnataka Janata Paksha, the party he founded after quitting the BJP following a massive controversy over illegal mining. However, Yeddyurappa merged the entity with the BJP before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and was elected to the Lok Sabha.

The elections to the 225-seat assembly are scheduled for May 12.
