BJP wins Charilam seat in Tripura
Agartala, Mar 15 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday won the Charilam seat in Tripura, the state in which the saffron party wrested its power recently, media reports said.
BJP's Jishu Debbarma, who is also the new deputy CM of the state, has won from the seat.
The poll in the particular seat was postponed after the Left candidate had died before the election in the state.
Following the post-poll violence, the Left had withdrawn its fresh candidate on last Friday, report said.
The BJP-IPFT alliance has uninstalled the 25-year old Leftist government on the state.
After the win in Charilam, the BJP and IPFT are having 44 seats in a 60-member Assembly.
The Left has been reduced to just 16 seats.
Biplab Deb has already been sworn-in as the new CM of the state.
After the poll victory, BJP President Amit Shah tweeted to say,
Congratulations to Shri Jishnu Debbarma, Deputy CM of Tripura, on winning the Charilam assembly by a record margin. I applaud CM Shri @BjpBiplab and the entire @BJP4Tripura unit for this continued success.
