Bombay HC gives temporary relief to Teesta Setalvad

| | Jul 24, 2015, at 11:54 pm
Mumbai, July 24 (IBNS) Giving temporary relief to activist Teesta Setalvad, the Bombay High Court on Friday extended her interim protection from arrest by two weeks.

A Mumbai court earlier refused to grant  anticipatory bail for the activist  who is  accused of violating foreign exchange laws and misusing the funds donated to her NGO by the US-based Ford Foundation.

The charges brought on him by the Gujarat police also include embezzlement of funds from NGO she runs with her husband Javed Anand.

At an earlier hearing in the court, the CBI  described her as "a threat to national security."

Setalvad has, however, denied all the charges as her lawyer says she is being persecuted for her role in filing cases against the Gujarat Government in connection with the 2002 riots when Narendra Modi was the state's Chief Minister.
