Brahmins, baniyas in my pocket: BJP leader's shocker; Congress demands apology

| @indiablooms | Nov 09, 2021, at 08:39 pm

Bhopal/IBNS: Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader P Muralidhar Rao's comment on Brahmins and baniyas have stirred a row with the Congress demanding an apology from the politician.

When a reporter pressed him saying the party's focus on certain communities runs contrary to the BJP's "development for all" agenda, Rao said, "Listen, listen, Brahmins are in my one pocket and baniyas in the other."

"When the number of people belonging to certain sections was higher (i.e., their numbers within the BJP was greater), people used to say the party belongs to them. When there were brahmins you called us brahmin party... when there were baniyas, you called us baniya party," he added, NDTV reported.

Slamming the leader's comment, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, "Insulting different sections of the society has become a BJP culture.

"The use of such unwanted words and derogatory language for the Brahmin and Vaish community shows that BJP's national functionaries have become blind due to the intoxication of power. JP Nadda should apologize to the country and society."
