CBI books brother and sister-in-law of former Arunachal CM Nabam Tuki on corruption charges

Guwahati, June 28 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked brother and sister-in-law of former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and two other officials of Arunachal Pradesh state PWD department in connection with corruption charges.

A top official of CBI said that, the premier agency has booked Nabam Hari, brother of Nabam Tuki, his wife Nabam Mary and PWD officials for alleged corruption in government contracts.

According to the reports, the CBI had carried out a preliminary investigation following directive by the Gauhati High Court into one such work related to the construction of a building of Kendriya Vidyalaya at Umroi cantonment in Shillong.

The top CBI official said that, the contracts handed by Nabam Tuki when he was served as the PWD minister in Arunachal Pradesh to his kin and kith without inviting tenders during 2005-07.

Nabam Tuki had illegally awarded several contracts to Mary Associate, a firm owned by Tuki's sister-in-law, Nabam Mary.

The firm was maintaining a current account in United Bank of India in which Nabam Mary’s husband and Nabam Tuki’s brother Nabam Hari is one of the nominee.

On the other hand, a top official of Arunachal Pradesh PWD department said that, during that period, construction works contracts worth of several crore of rupees were awarded illegally without inviting tenders and maximum works were allotted to the firms owned by the family members of the former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister.
