Chandrababu Naidu is pushing Andhra into sunset to see his son rise: PM Narendra Modi

Modi's reference was a mockery to state's tagline "Sunrise AP".

Addressing BJP workers in Andhra Pradesh through video-conference, Modi said people in the country see his Bharatiya Janata Party as a 'hope'.

"The CM of Andhra Pradesh is so fixated with the rise of his own son, he does not realise how his policies and corruption can lead to the sunset of the state. To set the son, he's creating an atmosphere for the sunset of the state," Modi said.

He said: "The enthusiasm of karyakartas in Andhra Pradesh indicates the direction of the wind. The Congress is a non-starter in the state. And the ruling TDP's poor governance is totally exposed. The youth of AP is impatient for change & seeing BJP as a ray of hope."

During his interaction with party workers, Modi also mentioned the incident where Naidu was recently caught on camera threatening BJP workers who tried to block his convoy.

Modi said the threat was a direct outcome of the fact that Naidu was becoming 'nervous'.

"When does a person lose his cool and become nervous? When does a person start threatening? The threat is a direct outcome of the nervousness and insecurity. It means the BJP workers are succeeding," he said.

Naidu was caught on camera threatening Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers when they attempted to block his convoy on his way to attend 'Janmabhoomi maa vooru' event in Kakinada area of the state on Friday.

Naidu was in the Godavari district of the state to attend the event when some BJP workers were seen raising slogan against him.

According to reports, Naidu stepped out from his vehicle and was quoted as saying to the workers who were attempting to block his convoy: "You will get beaten up. Don't invite unnecessary trouble. You will be finished. Do you support the injustice meted out to AP?."

"If you go on the streets, people will teach you a lesson," he said.

Naidu has criticised PM Narendra Modi and his government in recent times for not granting special status to Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu's TDP and the BJP had worked the Lok Sabha polls in 2014, which witnessed a landmark victory of Narendra Modi, together.

Last year, Naidu's party moved out from the Centre by breaking the alliance on the ground that the government did not fulfil their demand to grant special status to Andhra Pradesh.

After breaking the alliance, Naidu met several key opposition leaders, including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Congress president Rahul Gandhi, last year.

The move was seen as one of his attempts to construct a united Opposition to tackle the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 General Elections.
