Chhattisgarh: 10 Maoists, 1 cop killed in encounter
Raipur, Mar 2 (IBNS): At least 10 Maoists, including some top leaders, and police personnel have been killed in an encounter with the security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district bordering Telangana on Friday morning, media reports said.
Top Maoist leader Hari Bhushan was also killed. Indian Express claiming that 12 Maoists were identified two of the Maoist leaders as Damodar and Lakshmanna.
Reports said at least six women rebels were killed in the encounter.
The encounter took place in the Pujari Kanker forests, 500 kms away from state capital Raipur.
The encounter, which was carried out by the Chhattisgarh and Telegana police jointly, recovered huge number of weapons. Express reported that the operation was carried out by a joint team of anti-Naxal Greyhounds from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and special police personnel from Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.
Special Director General, Anti Naxal Operations, DM Awasthi told NDTV, "The encounter started early morning in the Pujari Kanker forests where forces gunned down 10 Maoists."
