Congress clinches majority in Karnataka civic polls
Bangalore, Sept 3 (IBNS): Disrupting hopes of BJP, the Congress clinched 10 of 22 districts during vote count for 105 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on Monday.
Elections were held on Aug 31.
In the polls, Congress won 982 seats out of the total 2,662 seats.
Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) won 375 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to grab 929 seats.
All political parties had contested the election separately.
The Congress and the JD(S), which are now running the Karnataka government together, might stitch a post-poll alliance, reports said.
Congratulating party workers for the victory, the Congress tweeted :"Congratulations to the Congress candidates who won in the #KarnatakaMunicipalElections. The party stood first with the most wins leaving the BJP in second place. A clear representation of what the people want. ."
