New Delhi/IBNS/UNI: The Congress party Monday met the Election Commission of India and raised a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making comments against the grand old party alleging that its manifesto is attempting to divide the country and imposing the pre-independence ideology of the Muslim League.

The Congress party delegation composed of Salman Khurshid, Mukul Wasnik, Pawan Khera and Gurdeep Sappal met the Election Commission of India at the Nirvachan Sadan here.

Speaking to the media after meeting the ECI, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “We were hurt by the Prime Minister’s speeches during the election rallies that our manifesto is a bundle of lies. You can disagree with a party and criticise it but claiming that a national party which participated in the freedom struggle can write a bundle of lies in the manifesto is not acceptable.

"He has no right to make such remarks against our manifesto. We have written a very good manifesto. We have raised our complaint with the EC."

He said the party also raised a complaint against the use of Armed Forces in election campaigning by the BJP as a violation of the MCC.

Moreover, the party has also objected to life-size hoardings and banners of the PM at various colleges of Delhi University under the 'Vikshit Bharat @ 2047: Voice of Youth Campaign and complaint against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar for allegedly giving false information pertaining to his financial status in his election affidavit.

He said that the Election Commission had instructed the MCD and other relevant agencies to take down all such hoardings of the Prime Minister or any other cabinet Ministers that have been put up.

The party has also raised objection to Doordarshan telecasting "the Kerala Story" and complaint against the RO of Tripura West Parliamentary Constituency for pressurising the candidate to share the commercial agreement between him and the vendor responsible for publishing banners and the posters of the candidate.
