Congress names Bengal leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as its leader in the Lok Sabha

New Delhi, June 18 (IBNS): The Congress party on Tuesday named its Bengal strongman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, media reports said.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdury is a five-time MP from Bengal.

The Congress MP from Bengal is representing the Berhampore since 1999. 

"The party took the decision at a meeting this morning where party chief Rahul Gandhi and his mother, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, were present," reported Hindustan Times.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is also the president of the Bengal Congress.

The party had clinched four seats in the Lok Sabha from Bengal in 2014.

This time the party won 2 seats,

The BJP won 18 seats in the seats in West  Bengal, amrking their significant rise in the political paradigm of the state. Te TMC won 23.

In the previous Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge had played the role of the leader of Congress in the lower house of the Parliament.

He lost in the 2019 general elections.

The Congress won 51 seats in the Lok Sabha polls this year.
