Congress president Sonia Gandhi greets Parsi community on Navroz
New Delhi, Aug 17 (UNI) Interim Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Saturday greeted people from the Zoroastrian community on the auspicious occasion of the Parsi New Year, Navroz.
In a message, Gandhi said, "every new beginning is the chance to make most out of it.’’
She prayed that the coming year may further the spirit of happiness, peace, harmony and brotherhood.
Parsi new year or Navroz, marks the beginning of Parsi calendar. It is also known as "Jamshedi Navroz" after the legendary King of Persia Jamshed.
The religion of Zoroastrianism, followed by Parsis, was founded by the Prophet Zarathustra in ancient Iran approximately 3,500 years ago. In India, presently, over 70,000 Parsi resides, mostly in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa.
