Congress will dedicate separate ministry for fisheries: Rahul

| @indiablooms | Mar 14, 2019, at 06:19 pm

Thrissur, Mar 14 (UNI): Launching the election campaign in Kerala, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said his party was committed to form a separate ministry for fisheries, guarantee minimum wages for all and write off agricultural loans of distressed farmers.

Addressing the National Fishermen Parliament in the coastal area of Thriprayar near here, he said his promises were not fake and they would be implemented without fail if the Congress comes to power after the next Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul said the fishermen community has sacrificed their lives for the country, whether it is cyclone or flood, but the Modi government have done nothing for their welfare.

“There should be someone in Delhi to listen to your voice and grievances. You can directly address the ministry and action would be taken immediately, he said to the applause of more than 3,000 fishermen," he said.

He also promised to bring in legislation for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and legislative assemblies. On a demand from the fishermen, he said one representative from the community will be nominated to Parliament.

Gandhi wondered who was sponsoring the advertisements of Narendra Modi on television and in newspapers.

"Around 15 big industrialists are marketing Mr. Modi and the Prime Minister is in turn protecting their interests," he said.
