Country's development in last 10 years was just a trailer: PM Modi to Indian diaspora in Moscow

Moscow/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the development his country witnessed in the last 10 years since he came to power was just a trailer, speaking at a gathering of Indian diaspora during his two-day visit to Moscow, Russia.

In his address to the diaspora, Modi said, "You all must have seen what was happening in the country during the elections. During the elections, I stated that the development India had achieved in the last 10 years was just a trailer."

"The coming 10 years are going to be of even faster growth! From semiconductors to electronic manufacturing, from green hydrogen to electrical vehicles, India's new momentum will write a new chapter in the history of development of the world."

Taking a dig at the past UPA regime, Modi implied "despair" prevailed in the country when Congress-led alliances ruled the country.

The Prime Minister said, "The first step towards achieving success is self-belief and self-confidence. Before 2014, we were in the depths of despair. But today, the country is full of confidence. And this is the biggest asset of Hindustan!"

This is Modi's first visit to Russia since becoming the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term.

End Ukraine war: India's appeal to Russia

India has made a direct appeal to Moscow to end the over two-year-long war against Ukraine during Modi's informal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the latter's residence, media reports said.

Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Russia, is believed to have told Putin as quoted by NDTV, "India has always called for respecting the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"There is no solution on the battlefield. Dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward."

Earlier, India refused to condemn Russia, with which New Delhi shares a warm relationship for decades, for its launching of attack on Ukraine and also abstained from United Nations' resolutions censuring the country.

After concluding his Russian trip, Modi will head to Austria.
