Avni was killed on Friday.
A shoot-at-sight order had been issued by the state’s principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) last month and was endorsed by the Supreme Court, reported Hindustan Times.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Sunday attacked Maharashtra government over the killing of a tigress in the state.
Gandhi said the incident left her 'deeply saddened'.
"I am deeply saddened by the way tigress Avni has been brutally murdered in #Yavatmal, #Maharashtra. #Justice4TigressAvni," Gandhi tweeted.
"It is nothing but a straight case of crime. Despite several requests from many stakeholders, Sh @SMungantiwar, Minister for Forests, #Maharashtra, gave orders for the killing. #Justice4TigressAvni," she said.
