Covering pictures of Imran Khan in India unfortunate: PCB
Islamabad, Feb 18 (UNI) The Pakistan Cricket Board has termed the removal of pictures of its former players in some places in India in the wake of Pulwama attack unfortunate and said it will take up the issue with BCCI during the ICC meeting which is scheduled to be held in Dubai on February 28.
However, the issue is expected to be raised on the sidelines as it doesn't feature in the agenda of the board meeting.
"...we have always believed and emphasised that sports and politics should be kept separate. History tells us that sports, particularly cricket, have always played a key role in building bridges between people and countries," PCB's Managing Director Wasim Khan said in the statement issued on Sunday night.
"... covering or removing portrait of former Pakistan cricket captain and Prime Minister Imran Khan and other legendary cricketers from one of the most historic cricket clubs and venues are highly regrettable actions," he added.
After the Pulwama attack where 44 CRPF personnel were martyred, the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai covered a portrait of Pakistan Prime Minister and former captain Imran Khan, while the Punjab Cricket Association removed photographs of Pakistani cricketers from various points inside the Mohali stadium.
"We have been informed by IMG Reliance that they will be unable to partner with us for the remaining HBL PSL 2019 and PCB has reserved all its rights. The PCB always had a contingency plan in place, and we are confident we will be in a position to announce the new partner on Monday after the completion of the formalities," Khan said.
Currently, the fourth edition of the PSL is underway in Dubai. The opening match of the tournament was played on Thursday.
Earlier, DSport, the official broadcaster of the PSL in India also suspended the telecast of the tournament with immediate effect in protest to the Pulwama terror attack.
