Covid-19: West Bengal confirms 51 fresh cases, three more deaths

Kolkata/IBNS: With 51 new confirmed cases in last 24 hours, the number of active Covid-19 positive cases in West Bengal has reached 385 while the coronavirus death count in the state has mounted to 18, officials said on Friday.

West Bengal Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha said that the number of patients recovered from Covid-19 in the state stood at 103 as no person was discharged from hospital in last 24 hours.

"These 51 new cases were reported from seven districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, East Burdwan, East Medinipur and West Medinipur," Sinha said during a press conference at state secretariat Nabanna.

"West Bengal has tested 8933 samples so far, with 943 tests in last 24 hours," he said.

Talking about the state formed audit committee to declare the number of Covid deaths, Sinha said, "The audit committee have evaluated 57 deaths so far and they found 18 deaths were directly caused by novel coronavirus."

"Severe comorbid conditions were the immediate cause of remaining 39 deaths and Covid-19 was the incidental finding in those cases," Sinha added.

Presently, 5,190 persons are kept in institutional quarantine in West Bengal while 26,716 people are under home isolation in the state.
