COVID-19: West Bengal reports highest one-day spike of 2589 cases, 48 deaths

Kolkata/IBNS: With highest single-day spike of 2589 infections and 48 deaths, West Bengal's Covid-19 tally has jumped to 72,777, including 20,631 active cases, 1629 fatalities and 50,517 discharges, reports said on Saturday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, in the past 24 hours, 2143 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 69.41 per cent from 68.92 per cent.

Officials said that Bengal has tested 9,13,465 samples till date with a record 20065 tests conducted in 57 testing facilities in the state in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal health department said that as on Aug 1 evening, the state had 1238 broad-based containment zones, 37 of which were located in Kolkata.

Presently, 3169 persons were kept in government quarantine centres and 31229 people are under home surveillance in the state.
