Crime in UP: Dreaded criminal shot dead in encounter in Bhadoi
Bhadoi/UNI: A dreaded criminal, who had carried a bounty of Rs 50,00 on his head, was shot dead in an encounter with the UP police on late Monday night under Suriva police station area in Bhadohi district, police said on Tuesday.
In the encounter, Crime Branch District in-charge Ajay Singh Senger was also injured when a bullet fired by the criminal pierced his leg while a constable Sachin Jha survived as another bullet hit his bullet proof jacket.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ram Badan Singh said here that the encounter took place under Suriva police station area near Chakia village at around 0130 hours (Tuesday).
When the police was checking the vehicles, two motor-cycle born criminals suddenly opened fire at the police.
In the retaliatory firing, the dreaded criminal Deepak Gupta was killed while his accomplice managed to flee, the SP added.
The deceased criminal, who was a native of Suriva police station area of the district, was wanted in 14 criminal cases. While Bhadoi police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000, Ambedkar Nagar police and Varanasi police too announced Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 reward on the slain criminal, respectively, the SP further said.
Singh said that the police have recovered a revolver and country made pistol from the possession of the criminal.
The deceased was also involved in a murder case in Bhadoi and even fled from the police custody in Varanasi a few year back.
