Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF ) jawan feeding a differently-abled Kashmiri boy in a market won plaudits after the incident, captured on a phone, went viral on social media.

Former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDD) president Mehbooba Mufti said,'' Salute this man’s sense of compassion & humanity.''
The Sikh jawan, identified as Iqbal Singh, was having his lunch in Nawakadal area in the downtown Srinagar on Monday when he saw a boy, wearing a black dress, sitting in front of a closed shop and signalling for food.

The jawan is seen walking towards the boy and offering his lunchbox to him. However, when on realising that the boy's hand were stricken with paralysis, the jawan is seen feeding him with his own hands. He is also seen wiping the child’s face and offering water to drink.

Singh was part of the convoy that was targeted in the fidayeen attack in which 44 CRPF personnel were killed and several injured in February this year at Awantipora.

The CRPF has taken cognisance of the gesture of the jawan and has decided to decorate him with the Director General (DG) commendation disc and certificate -- the highest service award of the paramilitary -- for showing "exemplary human gesture in spirit of the values enshrined in the charter of the force".

Mehbooba Mufti taking to micro blogging site twitter said, "Armed forces operating in Kashmir are often tarred with the same brush. But that generalisation can sometimes be grossly unfair. Salute this man's sense of compassion & humanity.

Jammu and Kashmir police has posted the video clip on its official account with a caption: "We care".

Former Director General of police S P Vaid in a tweet said, "Humane heart of uniform personnel is commendable".
