Delhi police register first COVID-19 death, 31-year-old constable succumbs
New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi Police has registered its first COVID-19 related death with a 31-year-old constable succumbing to the virus at the city's Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the police constable, Amit Rana, showed no symptoms of the infection till Monday evening.
Hours later he developed breathing problem along with high fever. His family rushed him to the hospital where he was declared brought dead, said reports.
His samples, taken before his death, tested positive, the report declared on Wednesday.
Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava expressing his grief over the loss tweeted: "The sudden demise of late Constable Amit Kumar from PS Bharat Nagar has saddened the police fraternity. We stand by his family in this hour of grief and pray to the Almighty to provide strength to bear this loss. All assistance to his family will be provided."

Over 70 cops in Delhi have tested positive for the highly contagious virus so far.
Meanwhile, eighty-five jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) have tested positive for COVID-19 which includes those posted to enforce lockdown orders in old Delhi areas, officials said on Wednesday.
Six personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), who visited West Bengal as part of MHA's Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT)'s convoy in Kolkata weeks ago, were found Covid-19 positive.
This comes as the total number of Coronavirus cases in India breached the 50,000-mark on Wednesday, more than four months after the first case of the contagion was reported in Kerala.
The tally rests at 50,545, including 1,771 deaths.
